evergreen

by Christian Marcum

2018 - 2021

In 2018, my younger brother and his wife moved from the small town of Prescott Valley, AZ to Shelton, WA. The town was just as small, but with a drastically different appearance and atmosphere. Evergreen highlights the idea of not just moving locations but shifting mindsets. The constant pursuit of growth and how that correlates with our journey and destination. My brother and his wife found an evergreen state of mind in a place that also supported the phrase in a much more literal way. The irony of the relationship may have been a coincidence but is anything ever truly a coincidence?

From 2018 to 2021 I would document our trips and the places we saw when my family and I visited. I decided to not photograph my brother or his wife as the subject, but the atmosphere that surrounded them and how it related to their inner sense of belonging.

These photographs are the result of this, coincidence…
